Not So Traditional Christmas Dinner

Hi! I’m back. I’ve been lazy lately, and I have lots of things I want to talk about, so I decided to post multiple articles today, as a wannabe gift for you. 🀭

In fact I wasn’t lazy. I was very busy, actually. While others were busy killing animals for their meat, I was busy saving them. For no reason. For their soul. Or mine. Who could tell?.. But don’t worry. If you were busy too, too busy to kill, perhaps… You can still prepare a TRADITIONAL Christmas Dinner. Because guess what? You don’t necessarily need dead animals meat for it. Shocker, I know!!! Sarmale without pig slaughter? Husleves without chicken??? Salade de Boeuf without beef??! OMG.

And here’s the best part. You’ll still have time to cook it even if you’re working today. (I know that many of you do.. 😞) But without dead animals in it, it won’t take ages. Shall we begin?πŸ‘©πŸΌβ€πŸ³

VEGETARIAN SARMALE:

Ingredients:

  • 1 pickled cabbage (whole)
  • 1 cup of rice
  • 1 teaspoon of smoked paprika powder
  • 1 teaspoon of sweet paprika powder
  • 1 teaspoon of pepper
  • 1 medium sized onion finely chopped
  • 1 tablespoon of oil
  • 250 gr of minced tofu
  • 250 gr of mushrooms finely chopped
  • salt
  • dried herbs – dill & thyme; 1 teaspoon of each
  • 1 red pepper finely chopped

First, we make the “meat”, out of our plant based ingredients. If your tofu isn’t already minced, mince it. Mix the tofu and the mushrooms with the herbs, the rice, the salt, the pepper, the paprika powders, the chopped red pepper… Jeez! Too many paprikas and peppers. πŸ˜… Let’s just mix everything together from the list above, except the oil, the onion and the cabbage, ok?

Braise the onion, add the “meat” and stear it slowly while you cook it for 5-10 minutes.

Now fill the cabbage leaves one by one with some “meat”.

Fill a pot with pickled Cabbage leaves, put the filled cabbages on it, and cover it with filed cabbage. Cover it with water and put it in the oven. When it starts to smell like heaven, check it and taste it. 🀍

Serve it with fresh bread and looots of sour cream on top. The secret is in the spices and the cabbage. It’s really not the meat. So don’t worry. It will taste just as good as you remember it. But you can eat more because it’s not that heavy. Plus, it’s healthier and no one died for it. Best best best sarmale ever.
